Delta Air bomb attempt: Nigerians survive Lagos Atlanta route

Delta airline Lagos to Atlanta failed bomb attempt, Air transport safety in nigeria, Air trabsport safety issue in Africa, How to prevent Air mishaps in Nigeria and Africa, Developing right Policy in Air safety Management in Africa,Airline business is not for the boys. It is a capital intensive business at both operations as well as regulatory level. Every nation has an Airport at least. It is essential right policies are made. Airline operators in most times have no or minimal control on what happens to the passengers until they board. So issue of security is majorly that of ground staff, military and Airport personnel.

In Nigeria, we have had cases of air mishaps. Many air crashes in the past ten years and cases of near air mishaps had been reported. Nigeria government kept promising all is well with millions budgeted for air safety equipments. In most cases, people noticed no significant changes in operations and infrastructures. There was ‘Oduah gate’ of  Billions US dollars rumour. No serious panels have been set up, and where there was one, there has not been any serious attempt to prosecute or punish offender.

Things seem to be going ‘business as usual” while lives of innocent passengers are being daily put at risk. Yet people must travel. All they need do is just to trust God for their safety. A situation that can be best curbed through proper planning and enabling laws.

A source from Dakar just informed our crew that there was a bomb attempt on Delta Airline Lagos to Atlanta route of 10.00pm June 8, flight. The source whose voice was shaking on the phone confirmed the plane hadto do emergence landing in Dakar Senegal before they left Dakar this morning around 7.00am Nigeria time. According to our source, a passenger in the said flight, claimed it was an attempt by two guys/passengers aboard the plane. The source was grateful the attempt was foiled eventually.

With this kind of occurrence, one begins to ask questions. Who and who are responsible for passenger scanning and other security issues on the ground at Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos?. Are there adequate equipments that can detect explosives on passengers going for boarding in Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos Nigeria? There may be a possibility of official conspiracy and attempt to cover this story as usual. But Passengers on this plane flying to Atlanta may not forget in an hurry the near fatal experience they had. This is especially so when there was a kid who was flying for the first time in his life time in that Delta Airline’s plane.

One is also quick to appeal to Delta management to increase security surveillance at the point where passengers board their plane. America to some people is playing a big brother role and therefore they are bent on destroying anything traceable to the country. These set of evil minded people would have forgotten it is not only Americans that board Delta Airlines. Millions of other passengers board Delta Airline around the world. So an attempt on Delta Airline will destroy many that are not from America or are just going for official or site seeing stuff.

We will give further updates on this as events unfold. Please do leave comment if you have a witness.
