Tunde Ayeni of Skye Bank Nigeria vs Fetus Odimegwu, how human destroys…

Tunde Ayeni, Skye Bank donation to President JonathanEze-Festus-Odimegwu-2606-1History is written so  men may learn from the past. The purpose of history is to capture the bad, the good and the way too ugly issues that had shaped human existence. Why you do not allow the past, especially the bad and the ugly to shape your future, there are vital lessons we can all learn from the good and the bad captured by the past.

Unfortunately, men and women of different sizes, age and position often ignore history to their own peril, or do we say many do not want to have anything to do with history so they deny themselves of the vital ingredients that can help them stay strong and vibrant. We all know human memory is very short but nature had helped human to understand the power of written words which serves us as history.

For those who had followed this platform, this not an alarmist or gossip platform.  It is for serious minded who desire different analytical opinions on current issues that can guide our Policy, Politics and Governance so we can get to the promised land. It is based on this parameter,  principles that we objectively assess issues around us.

Few days ago, President Goodluck Jonathan gathered captains of industry for a fund raising purpose to raise money for his second term bid. The news of this event’s success is everywhere. So we will spare our readers that space. But like we maintained, two individuals stood out among the donors. It is on record that they both claimed they were representing interests of their colleagues.

Mr Tunde Ayeni, Chairman of Skye Bank Nigeria Plc and Jerry Gana donated in Billions. Their donations exceeded that of Governors and other sectors. There had been outcry against this illegality from every concerned citizens. Such huge amount which was raked in for a  Political campaign, running into over Twenty One Billion, goes far beyond normal and could be better channeled.  Infact that event broke records  in the history of Political fund raising in Nigeria. The fund Is not an issue here as we have discussed that in in the previous article. Today our focus is on the implications of Mr Tunde Ayeni, Chairman of Skye Bank’s donation.

We often forget we live in a sensitive, high politicised environment. Many of our top Executives, albeit their assistants, often forget history which can adequately guide their actions, utterance within public space. The factor of top management behaviours and their impacts on the brand’s they lead is very important  to consider but we do not think such  count here.

A top level Corporate Executive’ actions are weighed differently from what an ordinary member of the team does. The Impact can be very huge depending on the mood, circumstances as well as the environment. A word from the Managing Director of a corporate entity can be viewed as the position of the entity he/she represents. For instance if President Jonathan says something in a foreign land, it can be taken as the opinion of the Country he is leading.

For lovers of history, during the third term bid of former President Obasanjo, which he had blamed on his campaigners and governors, Festus Odumegwu, the then Managing Director of Nigeria Breweries Plc became carried away in the scheme of things. He abandoned every sense of reasons and openly campaigned for Obasanjo’s bid. Instead of being ‘diplomatically’ involved like others, he spearheaded and carried his handshake beyond elbow. When that bid failed through the efforts of other vested interests, shareholders went mad on Festus Odumegwu then.

We all remembered what happened at the following Annual General Meeting of the company. A brilliant Executive who had performed excellently before this event was kicked out, abused. Only to be given a face saving study leave. This itself was possible because of those who felt shareholders should not forget Odumegwu extraordinary performance in the past.

With his brilliant performance, Festus Odumegwu’sname will still have been strong household name like Christopher Kolade and Co If he had not believed so much in Politicians ‘s credibility. The same President Obasanjo then publicly denounced Dim Odumegwu’ action. As far as we are concerned and which we thought is the average opinion, Festus Odumegwu has not gotten his mojo back  as one would have expected from such a brilliant individual.

Now coming back to Mr Tunde  Ayeni of Skye Bank Nigeria Plc, we all know he he was In a tight corner. No incumbent President should Invite you to such event and you turn him down. But hey, even if he claimed to be representing certain interest, there are other members of such interest that could have made that donation instead of him. We cannot forget there are stronger banks in Nigeria, in terms of asset and financial base. The leading figures of these other Banks had good knowledge of the environment. They had tactically stared clear of Politics in their pronunciations,  conducts and body language even though we all know they may be involved behind closed doors to protect their shareholders’ fund as well as their jobs.

If rumours going round in the social media we monitored today is anything to go by, this action of Mr Tunde Ayeni may have a ripple bad effect on the shareholders’ confidence in the management. Besides this, Skye Bank management also need to know many of their shareholders belong to several political camps. Or do we say Mr TundeTunde Ayeni will have to lead same interest to gather money for the oppositions?

Suppose or let us hypothetically hold the notion that President Jonathan eventually loses the  Presidential election to any of the opposition’s party, what is the fate of Skye Bank? We all know in this clime, like others, politics and Policians can be really vindictive. Looking for a pound of flesh. The future of shareholders fund and many other stakeholders in Skye Bank Plc entity may be jeopardised. Though if President Jonathan eventually wins, Skye Bank Plc bread Is already buttered. Life is all about risk taking but some risks are better avoided. Other top leaders within the interest Mr Tunde Ayeni claimed to have represented should have been the face of the donor instead of his. History is always there to teach human beings but we humans want to proof We are smarter. Hence this explains why we suffer unnecessary hardship hardship as well as put pressure on our loved ones. We do hope Mr Tunde Ayeni will watch his back in this season and beyond in order not to jeopardise stakeholders’ interest. He needs a lot of image management if he must lead Skye Bank’s Plc to the promised land.
